I bought the Sawyer water filter because its a high quality filter that works really well at filtering out harmful bugs from water that might not be considered very clean. It comes supplied with a flatpack water bottle and a syringe to back flush and clean the filter. I have used these filters on three previous occasions without any problems. The price is very good and Base Camp Food shipped it to me very quickly. Very happy with my purchase.
This is such a lightweight solution to purifying water from wild sources.
I have just been using it on a wild camp in the Scottish islands and it worked great. The main problem was finding water with enough depth to fill the bladder without disturbing silt in the stream. I had 2 litres carrying capacity and it would take me about a half hour to filter this. However there is something really fun about filtering your own water in the wild! Will definitely be using on all wildcamping trips from now on.
Brought it to use in the caravan as the wife can be funny with different water supplies.Very impressed takes no room little slow,so usually keep a pouch in the fridge pre filled.Easy to clean, usually had to back flush 4or5 times to get a decent flow.Overall money well spent!
I have put one in-line with my drinking bladder's tube. And, with fortune, it slides under a bit of trim on the shoulder strap of my rucksack and so acts to stop the tube flapping about. Perfect.
It is a little bit of a faff to take it off and back flush it regularly as the tubes on my bladder grip like a bulldog. A bit of warm water is needed each time to loosen the tubes.
I have yet to try out the other bits but they seem perfect for expeditions.
For EDC a go bag or just hiking/camping it can’t be beat. The sawyer mini is No1. Great value. Small and light. Quality manufacturing. It filters enough water to last you years if properly maintained. As far I can see there are zero cons.
