tasty but leave to soak for longer

Green Peppercorn sauce, yummy. Generous size. Pork bits were too hard and chewy - timed the soak and used just-off-the boil water then even wrapped in a puffy coat to keep warm for the time recommended, but still needed more. Would buy again though.

Freeze dried food or not freeze dried food that,s the question

Well being ex British Army I have been brought up on 'wet' food boil in the bag style food and think they are best. However I have recently branched out to longer walks and treks and after reading lots of reviews on freeze dried pouches thought I would give them a go. The first thing you notice is the weight difference with the freeze dried pouch being much lighter. OK you have to have boiled water to re-hydrate it but add a Sawyer water purifier to your ruck and you're sorted. So the LYO expedition pork in green peppercorn sauce was one of many I chose for my last trip. It was in a word amazing. The pouch packed such a taste like I've never had in a pouched meal. The chunks of meat were very generous you could actually tell it was pork! The flavour was really good with a nice spicy heat. I am now a freeze dried convert. I would recommend some form of thermal outer pouch to hold the pouch while it re-hydrates to prevent it getting cold to quick and so you can hold it to eat it. I fashioned mine out off an old Amazon bubble wrap envelope and some fabric gaff tape! Freeze dried food rocks.
